Assam Rifles Seizes Opium and Poppy Seeds in Chandel

Feb. 18, 2025 : In a decisive operation to curb illegal drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, under the leadership of the Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), successfully recovered and seized a significant quantity of contraband during a Cordon and Search Operation at Kholmunlen village in Chandel District.

The operation resulted in the recovery of 500 grams of opium, valued at approximately Rs 70,000 to Rs 75,000, along with two kilograms of poppy seeds, worth around Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500. The seized drugs have been handed over to the Chakpikarong Police Station for further investigation.

A release by the IGAR (South) stated that the operation highlights the ongoing commitment of the Assam Rifles to combat drug trafficking and uphold the safety and well-being of local communities, ensuring that illegal substances do not reach the streets of Manipur.
