Assam Rifles Takes Manipur Students to IIT Kharagpur for National Cultural Convention

IMPHAL, June 4: In an initiative aimed at fostering youth development and national integration, Assam Rifles sponsored and facilitated an educational and cultural exposure tour for 13 students and three teachers from Manipur to attend the SPIC MACAY International Convention at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.

The week-long convention, held from May 25 to 31, brought together students from across the country for an immersive experience in Indian classical music, dance, crafts, yoga, and cultural traditions. The Manipur delegation included five students and one teacher each from Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) Keithelmanbi and ARPS Mantripukhri, along with three students and one teacher from Manipur University.

The journey commenced on May 23 with a flag-off ceremony at Lok Bhavan, Imphal, attended by the Governor of Manipur. Addressing the participants, the Governor appreciated Assam Rifles for creating opportunities that allow young people from the state to gain exposure at premier national institutions and engage with India’s diverse cultural heritage.

During the convention, the students participated in yoga sessions, workshops, and interactive engagements with eminent artists, performers, and scholars. The programme also provided them with an opportunity to showcase and share the rich cultural traditions of Manipur with participants from different parts of the country.

Following their return, Assam Rifles organised a reception and flagging-in ceremony at Ashoka Hall, Mantripukhri, on June 4. Senior officials, including the Deputy Inspector General (South), Commander of 9 Sector Assam Rifles, and Commanding Officer of 31 Assam Rifles, attended the event.

A key feature of the programme was an interaction session during which students shared their experiences and highlighted the confidence, skills, and knowledge gained through the exposure tour. The officials encouraged the participants to inspire other young people in their communities and reiterated Assam Rifles’ commitment to supporting the educational and personal growth of Manipur’s youth.

The initiative reflects Assam Rifles’ continued efforts to provide meaningful opportunities for young people while strengthening cultural understanding and national unity.
