As part of the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY), post-operative medical check-ups were provided to five cataract patients from Sugnu on January 8, 2026, in Kakching. The initiative was carried out by the District Social Welfare Office under the supervision of the district administration.
The patients had been identified during a cataract detection and surgery camp organised on December 24, 2025, during Good Governance Week. Their cataract surgeries were successfully performed on January 7 at Kakching Eye Hospital.
In addition, pre-operative medical examinations were conducted on the same day for five more patients who were identified during an earlier screening camp held on December 22, 2025, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex, Kakching. These patients are scheduled to undergo cataract surgery on January 9.
The cataract detection and surgery drives, aimed at senior citizens, were organised at various locations, including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex, KBM Kakching Khunou, and the Sugnu Municipality Office at Sugnu Bazar. The programme was implemented through collaboration between the District Social Welfare Office, Kakching, Medilane Foundation, Imphal Eye Clinic, and Kakching Eye Hospital.
