The Directorate of Craftsmen Training under the Skill, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship (SLEE) Department, Government of Manipur, launched an Awareness Campaign on the Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS) for the North East Region at Hotel Classic Grande, Imphal.
The inaugural function was graced by Anurag Bajpai, Additional Chief Secretary (Textiles, Commerce & Industry and Transport), as Chief Guest; N. Bandana Devi, Secretary SLEE, as Guest of Honour; and Yaiphaba Longjam, Joint Director, Craftsmen Training, as President.
In his address, Anurag Bajpai emphasised that the PM-NAPS initiative under the Skill India Mission is vital for linking education, training, and industry. He noted that nearly 95–96% of industries in Manipur are micro or small-scale, and the government’s focus is on upgrading them through local resource utilisation and improved market access.
N. Bandana Devi highlighted the importance of enforcing the Apprenticeship Act, which mandates establishments with more than 30 employees to engage apprentices. She cautioned against employing trainees without stipends and urged all stakeholders to ensure fair implementation.
Yaiphaba Longjam underlined that apprenticeship remains one of the most effective forms of skill training, combining theory with hands-on learning. He reaffirmed the SLEE Department’s role as the nodal agency for implementation across Manipur.
The event also featured the official launch of the NAPS-2 Campaign Video and a seminar with students and establishments. The Chief Guest flagged off a promotional vehicle to spread awareness about the PM-NAPS across the North East Region.
Government officials, ITI instructors, and students actively participated, reaffirming collective efforts to empower Manipur’s youth and strengthen local industries.
