Awareness Campaign on Women and Child Helplines as Part of 10th Edition of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” Held in Kakching

Feb. 18, 2025 : An awareness campaign focusing on women and child helpline numbers was organized today as part of the 10th edition of the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (BBBP) scheme at Langmeidong Laimanai Bazar Community Hall. The initiative, led by the District Programme Officer (DPO), ICDS Cell, Kakching, aimed to inform the public about vital helplines and promote gender equality.

The campaign, attended by over 120 people, provided information on two key helplines: Women Helpline 181, a toll-free 24-hour service for women affected by violence, and Child Helpline 1098, a toll-free emergency number for children in need of care and protection.

Officials from the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Cell, Kakching, also educated attendees about the goals of the BBBP scheme, which seeks to eliminate gender bias, improve the welfare of girls, and empower women. The initiative, which marked its 10th anniversary on 22nd January 2025, focuses on saving and educating the girl child, ensuring gender equality, and preventing sex-selective elimination.

The public was also informed about the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act of 1994, which prohibits sex selection and regulates prenatal diagnostic techniques for detecting genetic abnormalities and other conditions.

The event was graced by Yumnam Basanta, Zilla Parishad, Waikhom as Chief Guest, Elangbam Muhendro Singh, Chairman Langmeidong Gram Panchayat as Guest of Honour, and Ningthoujam Parango Singh, DPO/CDPO, Kakching, as President. Additionally, 58 adolescent girls were presented with gifts during the function.
