In response to the rising number of dengue cases in the state, a one-day awareness programme on vector-borne diseases — focusing on Japanese Encephalitis (JE), Dengue, and Malaria — was organised at Kanglatongbi Children Home for Boys and Agape Children Home for Girls.
The initiative was jointly organised by the District Child Protection Unit, Kangpokpi, and the District Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme. The programme aimed to educate children and caregivers about disease prevention, hygiene practices, and the importance of maintaining clean surroundings to reduce mosquito breeding.
Dr. L. Lhingboi, District Malaria Officer, led the session along with Malaria Technical Supervisor L. Premmy Kom and staff members K.R. Kom and Jangkhohao Taothang. They shared practical tips on identifying early symptoms, using protective measures, and seeking timely medical attention.
The organisers emphasised that awareness and community participation are key to preventing the spread of dengue and other vector-borne diseases, particularly during the post-monsoon season.
