BABINA Hospital has successfully treated a high-risk paediatric patient suffering from a rare genetic condition linked to a serious congenital heart defect, highlighting its advanced cardiac care facilities.
A 1.7-year-old child, referred from outside the state, was diagnosed with 3MC syndrome, a rare inherited disorder associated with multiple complications. Detailed evaluation revealed a large atrial septal defect (ASD) with pulmonary valve narrowing, pulmonary hypertension, severe hypothyroidism, cleft lip and palate, lung damage, and an umbilical hernia, placing the child at extreme surgical risk.
After multidisciplinary assessment, a high-risk open-heart surgery was performed by a specialised team led by Dr. Shyambeer, Dr. Gaurav, and Dr. Lukram Sidartha. The child recovered rapidly, was shifted out of the ICU within a day, and discharged in stable condition.
