BEYOND JAMTARA CALLERS: THREE SUSPECTED PHISHERS IMPERSONATING JAY SHAH BROUGHT TO IMPHAL

MARCH 11, 2025: Like the old saying, “Every day for the thief, one day for the owner,” within 23 days of a police complaint, a team of Manipur police brought three suspected phishing callers to Imphal this morning. They had impersonated Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son, Jay Shah, and offered ministerial positions for a sum of ₹4 crore.

Subsequently, after the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur on Feb 13, several of the State’s legislators received calls from an unknown person who allegedly identified himself as Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son, Jay Shah, and offered them ministerial positions for a sum of ₹4 crore.

Manipur Police, late on Feb 15, posted on X that it had received complaints about fraudulent calls from unknown individuals attempting to influence and mislead MLAs by exploiting the ongoing political situation in the State.

It became major headlines across papers; it was reported that repeated calls were made on WhatsApp to an MLA from an unidentified number with no display picture. The caller identified himself as Jay Shah and demanded ₹4 crore for government formation.
