In the wake of circulating rumours linking him to a high-profile Supreme Court case, heavy security deployment was witnessed today outside the residence of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) senior spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei.
Both central and state forces have been stationed as a precautionary measure to ensure his safety.
The security arrangement comes after Bupenda was falsely linked on social media to the ongoing Supreme Court proceedings involving an alleged leaked audio tape connected to former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
The Congress leader has categorically denied any involvement in the case, asserting that he has neither served as legal counsel nor signed any vakalatnama for any party concerned.
“I have no connection to the case whatsoever. The rumours are completely baseless and are being spread with the sole intention of tarnishing my image and that of the Congress Party,” Bupenda stated.
He further condemned the spread of misinformation as a deliberate attempt to malign him during a politically sensitive period in Manipur. “Such acts amount to intimidation and pose real threats to life and property,” he added.
Bupenda has also alleged that individuals behind the false narrative are linked to the BJP or are its supporters, intensifying the political tension surrounding the issue.
Meanwhile, authorities have not reported any untoward incidents but continue to maintain a vigilant presence outside his home.
