Bird trapping nets seized during drive at wetlands

Kakching, Dec 6: As part of the ongoing drive by the Forest Department to curb illegal poaching in vulnerable areas, forest officials from the Thoubal Forest Division conducted a drive in the wetland areas of Kakching Forest Range and seized at least five bird trapping nets on Saturday early morning. Moreover, the forest official team also conducted a special drive against wild meat sale at Pallel area.

According to sources, the drive was led by Beat Officer Nameirakpam Bikramjit of Pallel Beat Office, Kakching Forest Range, under the supervision of Dr. L. Jeeceelee, DFO, Thoubal Forest Division, and Huidrom Sundar, Range Officer, Kakching Forest Range. He was assisted by a team of forest staff of Kakching Range and Pallel Beat Office.

The source added that during the drive at Lousipat Khongjao wetland, three bird trapping nets could be seized, and two from the Komnao, Pumlen Pat, and Arong Nongmaikhong wetland areas.

Later, the officials also checked the Tuisimi, Aimol, and Khangshim Bazar areas in Pallel to see whether wild meat was sold or not.

It is said that the Kakching Forest Range officials will have intensified patrolling and checking in the vulnerable areas to prevent illegal transportation and hunting of wild birds and animals.
