The District Administration of Bishnupur on 27 November 2025 observed the Day of Pledge Against Child Marriage with a district-level programme at the Conference Hall of the Mini Secretariat Complex. The event, organised in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit under the Department of Social Welfare, reaffirmed the district’s commitment to preventing child marriage.
During the observance, Additional Deputy Commissioner Toijam Opendro administered the pledge to officers and staff of the administration. The programme was attended by AC to DC S. Gunamani, District Child Protection Officer Indrani Chongtham, and district-level officials from various departments.
Departments and institutions across Bishnupur, including relief camps, Child Care Institutions, and police stations, held parallel pledge ceremonies to extend the campaign’s reach. The initiative aims to intensify public awareness of child marriage laws and reinforce the government’s resolve to protect children from harmful practices.
The Day of Pledge aligns with the national Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign, launched on 27 November 2024 by the Minister of Women and Child Development. The campaign adopts a “Whole of Government” and “Whole of Society” approach to end child marriage and advance the larger vision of Viksit Bharat by promoting the wellbeing and empowerment of girls.
As part of the initiative, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat Portal, providing a central repository of information on Child Marriage Prohibition Officers across the country to strengthen monitoring and coordination.
