At least 15 BJP MLAs, headed by former CM N. Biren Singh, rushed to the royal palace of MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba on Thursday evening, following complaints lodged by the MP’s office to the Manipur Governor against Manipur DIG Themthing Ngashangva. The complaint alleged that the IGP “barged inside the residential compound,” accused the MP of sheltering Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and allegedly warned that an FIR would be filed against the security personnel for allowing the activity.
Following the incident, around 15 BJP MLAs rushed to Sana Konung to assess the situation and extend support. Apart from former CM Biren Singh, the BJP MLAs include ex-minister Govindas Konthoujam, Wabagai AC MLA Dr. U. Deben, Sekmai AC MLA H. Dingo, Lamlai AC MLA Kh. Ibomcha, and several other ruling party legislators. The visit is speculated to be an assessment of the situation and of the MP himself to provide support.
A written complaint was submitted to the Governor of Manipur alleging that IGP Themthing Ngashangva forcibly entered the Royal Palace complex at around 1:30 pm today and threatened security personnel posted at the residence of the MP.
