BJP MLAs Set to Meet at 3 PM; NDA MLAs to Meet at 4 PM: Popular Govt on Cards?

FEB 2, 2026 (IMP):
The much-awaited, high-level crucial meeting of NDA MLAs of Manipur, summoned by the BJP high command, is set to be held tomorrow (Tuesday) in New Delhi. The first meeting is arranged exclusively for BJP MLAs at 3 PM at the party’s National Office, while the joint NDA MLAs meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 PM at Manipur Bhawan, Sardar Patel Marg, according to our source in Delhi.

Earlier, the MLAs were asked to reach Delhi before 3 PM on February 3. However, some of the Kuki-Zo MLAs from Churachandpur have yet to reach Delhi as of today at 2 PM (Monday), as they took the Churachandpur–Mizoram route to reach the national capital.

Most of the MLAs were seen leaving from Imphal Airport yesterday. These included MLAs from the BJP, NPP, NPF, and Independents. BJP State President A. Sharda Devi also flew to Delhi, while NPP President Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze is currently stationed in Delhi.

Ostensibly, the meeting is to discuss the formation of a popular government in Manipur, as the current spell of President’s Rule is set to expire next week. President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur after the BJP-led government headed by Biren Singh resigned on February 9. The 60-member State Assembly, which has a tenure till 2027, was put under suspended animation.

On December 14, 2025, BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B. L. Santhosh and the party’s Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra met BJP MLAs from both the warring Meitei and Kuki communities in Delhi under one roof.

In the 60-seat State Assembly, there are currently 37 BJP MLAs in Manipur. Originally, 32 BJP MLAs won the 2022 Assembly elections. Later, five MLAs from the JD(U), who had won six seats, joined the BJP, taking the strength of the saffron party to 37.

The alliance MLAs include six from the National People’s Party (NPP), five from the Naga People’s Front (NPF), two from the Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA), one from the Janata Dal (United), and three Independents. There is one vacant seat following the death of sitting MLA N. Kayisii.
