Blood Cannot Be Manufactured in Laboratories; Voluntary Donation Key to Prevent Shortages: Director Ng Uttam

Emphasising the importance of voluntary blood donation to prevent shortages during medical emergencies, Director, DIPR, Ngangom Uttam stated that every citizen should come forward to donate blood regularly so that hospitals can meet urgent requirements in times of need.

He was speaking at the 4th Blood Donation Camp organised by Nirmal Foundation at JNIMS Blood Centre, Porompat, Imphal East, yesterday.

Highlighting the significance of blood donation, Uttam said that blood cannot be manufactured in laboratories and there is no alternative to human blood. Hence, voluntary donation remains the only way to save lives.

He further noted that during critical situations such as accidents or medical emergencies, timely availability of blood becomes extremely crucial.

To ensure that hospitals do not face shortages, maintaining adequate blood stock through regular voluntary donation is vital.

He appealed to the public to actively participate in blood donation drives as a social responsibility.

Uttam also pointed out that with advancements in science and technology, misconceptions surrounding blood donation should be dispelled, and people should be encouraged to donate blood without fear, as it is a safe and noble act.

Speaking on the occasion, the General Secretary of Nirmal Foundation, Shamurailatpam Robin Sharma, informed that Nirmal Foundation is a registered NGO and has been consistently organising blood donation camps for the past four years.

He stressed that blood is an irreplaceable life-saving component and cannot be substituted by any artificial means.

With the objective of assisting patients in need and supporting hospitals during shortages, the Foundation organised today’s camp with active public participation.

In today’s Blood Donation Camp held at JNIMS Blood Centre, 40 donors voluntarily donated blood, contributing towards strengthening the blood reserve for emergency medical care.
