Body of Lamnunthem Singson Reaches Manipur; Last Rites Performed in Kangpokpi

The mortal remains of Lamnunthem Singson (26), an Air India cabin crew member who lost her life in the June 12 Ahmedabad plane crash, arrived in Manipur late Thursday night. The body was flown from Ahmedabad to Dimapur and then transported by road to her hometown in Kangpokpi district, where her last rites were performed today with full customary honours.

A solemn reception was held at Dimapur Airport, attended by family members, community leaders, and representatives of civil society organisations. A candlelight vigil was also held along NH-2 during the body’s journey.

Singson was among the confirmed casualties of the tragic AI171 crash. She was the first among the two Manipur-born cabin crew members to be identified and brought home.

Meanwhile, Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma (22) from Thoubal district, also part of the cabin crew, remains unaccounted for. Her family continues to wait in Ahmedabad for DNA confirmation of one of the unidentified bodies.

Community organisations, including the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), facilitated arrangements in coordination with local authorities. Meitei civil society groups have also extended support and called for communal harmony.

The state government has assured continued assistance to the families of both victims.
