Bomb-attack Case:Govt to hand over to NIA; Para-operation to be launched; Ex-gratia for lives lost in firing

APRIL 7, 2026 (IMP): The Government of Manipur has resolved to hand over the bomb-attack case, which killed two minor kids, to the National Investigation Agency for an impartial and thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice, and has vowed to carry out a coordinated operation involving paramilitary forces.

The government has also resolved to provide ex-gratia for those who died in the protest due to firing and will look after those injured accordingly, according to Home Minister K. Govindas while addressing the media at the CM Secretariat this afternoon. The government also decided to provide ex-gratia to the bereaved family of the internally displaced minor from the relief camp, who was recovered dead after going missing.

The Manipur government commonly provides an ex-gratia amount of ₹10 lakhs to the next of kin of deceased individuals in conflict-related cases, often split between state and central funds. This amount is for cases like those occurring during the ongoing violence and specific targeted killings.

During today’s protest and standoff in Bishnupur district, in the aftermath of the mortar bomb attack by suspected Kuki militants, at least two individuals died and five others received bullet injuries, according to Home Minister K. Govindas while addressing the media at the CM Secretariat this afternoon.
