Feb 27, 2025 : In a major push for rural employment and economic empowerment, the performance of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) was reviewed in detail during the DISHA meeting for Kakching district. The scheme, which guarantees 100 days of wage employment to rural households, plays a vital role in providing livelihood security and improving infrastructure in villages.
Member of Parliament Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur chaired the meeting, emphasizing the need for effective implementation and timely wage payments under MGNREGS. District officials, led by Deputy Commissioner Rohit Anand (IAS), provided updates on the progress of ongoing projects, fund utilization, and challenges faced in execution.
With thousands of rural families relying on MGNREGS for their income, the discussion focused on ensuring job creation, transparency, and better coordination between departments. The meeting also explored ways to integrate the scheme with other rural development programs for greater impact.
