Thoubal, Feb 06: Kuki Zo people residing in the border town of Moreh were on the streets for a mass rally, showing strong resentment and protesting their three MLAs joining the formation of the state government.
The mass rally was held in support of the 24-hour shutdown imposed by the Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) against its three MLAs taking part in the government formation. KSO alleged the move of the three MLAs as a “betrayal of the community’s demand for a Separate Administration.”
KSO Moreh Block and other Kuki-Zo civil society organisations (CSOs) of the Moreh area organised the mass rally, which saw participation from various Kuki organisations. Later, the protesters burned effigies of the three MLAs—Nemcha Kipgen, LM Khaute, and N. Sanate—showing their strong opposition.
The rally started from Galngam Lantol Ground, Moreh, proceeded via Moreh Market, Forest Gate, and the National Highway, and ended at the Hill Tribal Council (HTC) office complex.
A public meeting was also held at Galngam Lantol Ground before the start of the rally, where speakers expressed their opposition to the joining of the three MLAs in the government.
