March 22, 2026: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday emphasized that bridging the trust deficit and gap between the Meitei–Kuki communities is the top priority of his government and its central agenda, calling for sustained efforts toward reconciliation and peace.
Speaking to reporters during his inspection of development works at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Imphal, Singh highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at restoring stability in the state. He referred to his recent visit to Guwahati, where he held discussions with members of the Kuki-Zo Council to promote an environment conducive to dialogue.
He expressed hope that these engagements would help both communities overcome hesitation and participate in talks more openly. Addressing the demand for a “Separate Administration” by certain Kuki-Zo groups, Singh reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clearly stated in Parliament that Manipur’s territorial integrity cannot be compromised.
Clarifying his position, the Chief Minister said the discussions were focused solely on initiating a peace process, without any assurances or concessions on the demand. Emphasizing the need for unity, he said adopting a “forgive and forget” approach is vital for moving forward.
Singh also assured that the government is taking steps to ensure the safe and timely return of internally displaced persons to their homes, as part of broader efforts to bring normalcy back to the state.
