Bridging the Peace Gap: BJP MLA Y. Khemchand Enlightens Christmas Spirit at Valley’s Fringe Near Kuki Area

DEC 26, 2025 (IMP): Once again, BJP MLA Yumnam Khemchand of Singjamei AC has highlighted the importance of a harmonious and peaceful Manipur by making efforts to bridge the peace gap and enlightening the spirit of Christmas through his visit to the fringe areas of the valley bordering Kuki villages at Namdilong in Imphal West.

Ignoring social media trolls who may term it aura farming or a PR strategy, the MLA conveyed a strong message at a large gathering, stating, “Without any community, there cannot be Manipur. We are all brothers, and together we must protect Manipur.” Referring to the fragile situation in the state, Khemchand underlined that peace is the only way forward. “We have to live in peace. Peace alone can restore normal life and normalcy in Manipur,” he added.

He is believed to be the first sitting MLA to attend a Christmas programme in the area since the outbreak of the ethnic crisis, a move seen as significant given the prevailing ground situation and deep mistrust among communities.

With carols, cultural dances, and gift exchanges, the celebration was no different from those in other peaceful areas. “Jesus is the Prince of Peace. May this Christmas and the coming New Year bring peace and harmony to Manipur,” Khemchand said. The MLA was accompanied by his spouse, Yumnam Joybala.

His presence at the celebration, held in a highly sensitive area, was widely viewed as a symbolic message of outreach and reconciliation at a time when Manipur continues to grapple with divisions and insecurity.
