BSF Nabs Smuggler with Over 36 Lakh Bangladeshi Taka in Crackdown

In a crackdown on cross-border currency smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) team of Mizoram & Cachar Frontier apprehended an Indian national in Lunglei district, seizing Bangladeshi currency worth 36,62,100 Taka (approximately Rs. 25.7 lakh). The arrested individual, identified as SK Masidul Haque, was taken into custody near Tablabagh in southern Mizoram following actionable intelligence inputs.

Alongside the foreign currency, a mobile phone and a substantial amount of Indian cash were also recovered from his possession. The BSF said the operation was part of an ongoing effort to combat illegal cross-border activities, which have been on the rise in the northeastern region due to the porous border with Bangladesh. Authorities are further investigating the network behind the smuggling racket.
