Police this afternoon foiled a rally organized by the Youth Front of the Manipur Peoples’ Party (MPP) at the gate of the party office in Imphal, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.
The youth wing had planned to highlight what it termed the government’s “divisive approach” in dealing separately with the two communities in the ongoing Manipur crisis, without delivering a concrete solution.
Party members alleged that the prolonged violence has left thousands displaced, buffer zones entrenched, and civilian lives shattered, yet New Delhi continues to delay a decisive settlement.
The MPP said the silencing of democratic voices on such a crucial day only reflects the Centre’s failure to address the state’s wounds with sincerity and inclusiveness.
