Jan 31, 2025: In what could serve as a catalyst for motivating sportspersons to bring home gold medals from the National Games, the state cabinet, in its meeting, has approved the allocation of government jobs to the medalists of previous National Games. The state cabinet, held on Thursday evening, also considered offering the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sports) to Arjuna Awardee and Wushu player Naorem Roshibina in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the sport.
Additionally, the Cabinet discussed and reviewed key agendas presented by various departments, addressing critical issues concerning the state’s development and welfare. Meanwhile, at the ongoing 38th National Games, Manipur has risen to 11 medals in the tally, including 6 gold and 5 silver as of yesterday. So far, it has secured the overall 2nd position in the medal tally, next to Karnataka. A total of 400 athletes will compete in 19 disciplines.
It is worth mentioning that in the previous 37th National Games, athletes from Manipur brought home a total of 92 medals: 27 gold, 27 silver, and 38 bronze.
