CADA Warns: Drug Lords’ Shadow, Youth Abuse Tarnishing Manipur’s Image

On the 19th Foundation Day of the Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) held today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Konung Lampak, the organisation voiced strong concerns over the invisible hand of drug lords behind Manipur’s recurring drug menace and the growing trend of substance abuse among youths.

CADA Secretary General Takhellambam Geetchandra, speaking on the sidelines of the event, lauded the NAB and Manipur Police for their continued “War on Drugs” operations under the State Government.

However, he questioned the lack of transparency in bringing to light the masterminds and drug lords responsible for the smaller hauls reported in the state.

Warning that substance abuse is increasingly becoming a dangerous trend among youths, he stressed that such habits not only ruin lives but also erode the cultural and traditional identity of Manipur.

He appealed for collective social responsibility to protect the younger generation from falling prey to intoxicants.

The function was graced by Thokchom (O) Ramani, President of All Manipur Women’s Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), as Chief Guest, with CADA President Hijam Priyokumar presiding. Prof. Khumukcham Lokeshwor, Medical Superintendent of JNIMS, also attended as Guest of Honour.
