CCpur Turns Riot District: Fierce Mob Took Down Police Entrance Gate Demanding Release of Rioters

Violent protestors in large numbers took down the entrance gate of Churachandpur District Police Station in Old Bazar on Sunday, demanding the unconditional release of some rioters arrested earlier on the night of 12th September on charges of rioting, mischief causing damage to property, and obstruction of duty of a public servant.

Some young protestors were also seen attacking the RAF (Rapid Action Force), who were on duty, by pelting stones. The RAF, with maximum restraint, ran for their lives to avoid unwanted chaos in the area. Another large group of young people was also seen pulling the police barricade structure on Lamka Road, as if the district were under their control.

According to local reports, on the night before the PM’s visit to the district, the district police arrested some miscreants (said to be three) who were vandalizing and removing the decoration and renovation works made in the run-up to the PM’s visit to the district.

All the shops and private business establishments in the Lamka areas, along the main roads in the district, were closed for the day due to the situation. The RAF has now also been posted in the main areas of the district to control the situation.
