Census 2027 Will Not Be Fair and Will Be Unacceptable Under Present Conditions: BJP & Congress Among 12 Manipur Political Parties

December 27, 2025 : BJP and Congress, along with 10 other political parties in Manipur, today jointly resolved that the proposed 2027 Census would neither be fair nor acceptable if conducted under the present situation marked by unrest and large-scale displacement.

The collective stand was adopted during a day-long programme titled “Political Parties Conclave on the Issues of Census & Delimitation in Manipur”, organised by the Joint Forum for Delimitation (JFD) and the Campaign for Just & Fair Delimitation at Lamyanba Shanglen, Konung Mamang, Imphal East.

The conclave cautioned that undertaking the census and subsequent delimitation exercise without the restoration of normalcy would fail to capture Manipur’s true demographic reality and would seriously undermine democratic representation of various indigenous and affected communities.

Urging the Government of India, particularly the Ministry of Home Affairs, to act with caution, the conclave demanded that the census in Manipur be deferred.

The parties further resolved to submit joint and individual representations to the Centre seeking postponement of the census until displaced populations are resettled and normal conditions return.

Representatives from BJP, Congress, Shiv Sena, NPP, AAP, JD(U), CPI(M), CPI(I), RPI, GGP, DPF and MPP participated in the conclave.
