The Chandel District Health Society kicked off the second round of National Deworming Day (NDD) 2025 on Tuesday at Khungpham Primary School, Mantripantha Village, aiming to protect children from parasitic worm infections and promote overall health and hygiene.

The event was graced by Md. Firoz Khan, Chief Executive Officer, ADC Chandel, as the Chief Guest. Hrangbung Starson Anal, ZEO Chandel, and Ahanthem Neemi, Programme Officer, ICDS Cell Chandel, attended as Guests of Honour, while Dr. Joyson Matthew Monsang, Chief Medical Officer, Chandel, presided over the programme.

In her keynote address, Dr. Hrangbung Sally, District Nodal Officer for Child Health, outlined the objectives of the campaign and emphasized the crucial role played by teachers and Anganwadi workers. She highlighted that over 25,000 children aged 1 to 19 would receive Albendazole tablets through schools, Anganwadi centres, and other institutions. A mop-up round will follow to ensure that children who missed the initial round are covered.

Dr. Sally also spoke on the harmful effects of parasitic worms, the importance of hygiene, and available treatments. She stressed the need for better sanitation, safe food, clean water, and consistent hygiene practices to prevent worm infestations.

Presiding over the function, CMO Dr. Joyson Matthew Monsang described the campaign as a long-term investment in health and education. “By protecting children from worm infections, we are safeguarding the future of our district,” he said. He added that the initiative not only promotes health but also empowers children to grow into productive citizens. Dr. Monsang also appreciated the coordinated efforts of various departments and stakeholders that contributed to the campaign’s smooth implementation.

The Guests of Honour, ZEO Hrangbung Starson Anal and DPO ICDS Cell Ahanthem Neemi, reaffirmed their full support for the campaign, pledging continued collaboration for its success.

The programme concluded with presidium members, teachers, and staff from the ICDS and Health Department administering Albendazole tablets to all eligible students.
