Chandel Launches Third Phase of Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign

The District Tobacco Control Cell under the District Health Society, Chandel, has launched the third edition of the Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign (TFYC 3.0) at the DC Office Complex. The programme was opened by Deputy Commissioner L. Nandakumar Singh, with Additional District Commissioner Md. Firoz Khan, District Nodal Officer Dr. L. Deben Singh, and other officials in attendance.

During the launch, Dr. Deben Singh outlined the campaign’s key objectives, including raising awareness on the harms of tobacco, ensuring compliance with tobacco-free norms in educational institutions, promoting tobacco-free villages, and strengthening enforcement of COTPA 2003 and PECA 2019. The initiative also aims to boost social-media engagement and build the capacity of frontline health workers.

Public awareness activities have already begun in schools, colleges and local communities, where students and residents took a pledge to support the movement. An interactive session held at Chalong and Cheengkhu villages saw health officials brief youths and villagers on the dangers of tobacco use.

Dr. Singh said similar programmes will be organised across Chandel and urged the public to extend their support to make the district tobacco-free.
