Chandel Marks World Day Against Child Labour with Awareness Programme

Chandel, June 12: An awareness programme marking the World Day Against Child Labour was held at Sinadam Village Community Hall in Chandel district, highlighting the need to eliminate child labour and strengthen protection of children’s rights.

The programme was organised under the joint initiative of the National Legal Services Authority and the Manipur State Legal Services Authority, through the District Legal Services Authority, Chandel, in collaboration with the Khuhringkhuw Village Legal Aid Clinic.

Addressing the gathering, District Child Protection Officer Babuna Dangmei spoke on the legal safeguards available for children under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act.

Advocate Seltun Wellster briefed participants on national child protection helpline numbers and emphasised the importance of reporting offences related to child labour to the appropriate authorities.

The programme saw participation from students, members of local civil society organisations and senior villagers. It concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ts. Khiningkham Anal, coordinator of the Khuhringkhuw Village Legal Aid Clinic.
