Chief Minister Inquires Health Condition of Injured Person, Calls for Peace Amid Litan Curfew

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday morning inquired into the health condition of an injured person at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, following the recent incident in the Litan area of Ukhrul district. He was accompanied by BJP Manipur President A. Sharda Devi and Kakching AC MLA M. Rameshwar Singh.

During the visit, the Chief Minister interacted with the injured individual and medical staff to review the treatment being provided. Stressing the importance of calm and restraint, he urged all concerned to move beyond past mistakes, forgive one another, and work collectively towards restoring peace and harmony in the region.

The visit comes amid a curfew imposed across the entire Litan area by the District Magistrate of Ukhrul, Ashish Das. As per an official order issued on February 8, 2026, the curfew came into effect from 7:00 pm on Sunday and will remain in force until further orders under Sub-Section (1) of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The order restricts the movement of individuals outside their residences.

The preventive measure was enforced following reports and apprehensions of a possible breach of peace and public tranquillity in Litan village, arising from tensions between the Tangkhul and Kuki communities. Government officials and security personnel on duty are exempted from the curfew restrictions.

Authorities have called for public cooperation to ensure peace and the early return of normalcy in the area.
