FEB 10, 2026 (DIPR): In a significant step towards improving air connectivity in the State, Chief Minister Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh today flagged off the commencement of direct SpiceJet Airlines flight services from Imphal to Guwahati, Kolkata, and Mumbai at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister lauded Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat, underscoring its pivotal role in achieving Viksit Manipur. He noted that during these difficult times, air travel has become the preferred mode of transport for travelling outside the State. He directed the airline company to review airfares to ensure affordability.
As part of the launch event, the Chief Minister handed over the boarding pass to the first traveller of the SpiceJet service to Guwahati.
The programme was also attended by Lok Sabha MP Dr. Bimol Akoijam, MLA Thanga AC Shri Tongbram Robindro Singh, MLA Chingai AC Shri Khashim Vashum, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Bajpai, Director (Transport) Shri Khumanthem Diana, Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, Shri Ksh. Shivakanta Singh, and officials of the Airport Authority of India, among others.
The sidelines of the programme included the Chief Minister leading the others in candle lighting, ribbon cutting, and cake cutting.
