Chin-Kuki Militants, KSO Denounce and Defy Thadou Tribe-Meitei Alliance Peace Pact

March 7, 2025: The ‘Meitei Alliance,’ along with ‘Thadou Inpi-Manipur,’ is all set to make a joint declaration for the restoration of peace in Manipur at the Diplomatic Enclave, Chanakyapuri, in New Delhi.

The Meitei Alliance, a consortium representing Meitei organizations outside Manipur, and Thadou Inpi Manipur, the apex body of the Thadou Tribe in Manipur, have prepped for a joint press conference.

However, this new peace initiative by the two bodies has been threatened by the Chin-Kuki militant group United Kuki National Army (UKNA), which has asked the apex body of the Thadou Tribe to withdraw its decision from making any peace declaration. Meanwhile, the KSO Delhi (Delhi and NCR) also expressed disappointment in this move, stating it “lacks both legitimacy and locus standi to unilaterally determine the future of the Kuki people under the pretense of ‘Restoration of Peace in Manipur.’”

Earlier, the ‘Thadou Inpi-Manipur,’ the apex body of the Thadou Tribe, categorically stated that “Thadou is not Kuki, or underneath Kuki, or part of Kuki, but a separate, independent entity from Kuki.”

A delegation from Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) also met A.K. Mishra, the Advisor (NE) to the Ministry of Home Affairs, at his office in North Block, New Delhi, on February 17. They presented a roadmap for restoring peace in Manipur and discussed the futility of violence, the loss of many precious lives and properties on both sides involved in the conflict, as well as the impact on those uninvolved, particularly the Thadou Tribe. The TIM also highlighted the atrocities and supremacist actions of Kuki militants against the Thadou Tribe in Manipur.
