Chothe Students Unhappy With Amit Shah Remarks on Naga Inhabited Areas

March 10, 2025: The Chothe Athourul Ngei Abom (CANA), Chothe Student Union, has issued a press statement addressing recent remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on March 1 regarding Naga-inhabited areas.

The Chothe community, along with other indigenous groups, has been closely monitoring the developments related to the Naga peace process and its implications on territorial integrity and autonomy. The union emphasized the need for meaningful dialogue and a peaceful resolution that respects the aspirations of all communities involved.

CANA expressed concerns that Minister Shah’s comments have caused anxiety among the Chothe people and other stakeholders in the region. The student union stressed that any discussions on territorial boundaries and governance must consider the historical and cultural contexts of indigenous populations. They urged the government to ensure that the voices of local communities are heard in decision-making processes affecting their lives and livelihoods.

The statement called on the government to engage in inclusive dialogue with all stakeholders, including the Chothe community, to safeguard their rights and ensure their involvement in the resolution process. CANA highlighted that peace and development in the region can only be achieved through mutual respect, understanding, and collaboration among ethnic groups.

As representatives of the Chothe student community, CANA reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for their rights and preserving cultural identity. They urged the government to uphold justice, equality, and respect for the region’s diverse identities.

Expressing hope for a fair resolution, the union called on the government to take their concerns seriously and work toward an outcome that acknowledges the aspirations of the Naga people while fostering harmony among all communities.
