“For Making a Good Film, Strong Collaboration Between Director and Cinematographer is Very Important”

Under the aegis of Film Forum Manipur, the All Manipur Cinematographer Association (AMCA) observed Cine Off Day today at BB Films Auditorium, Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai.
KSHETRIMAYUM KISHOREKUMAR, Vice Chairman-2 of Film Forum Manipur, attended as Chief Guest. L. RADHAMOHON, President of AMCA, attended as President of the function. BIRENDRA SALAM, Former Director of the Manipur State Film & Television Institute and Advisor of Film Forum Manipur, attended as Guest of Honour.
As part of today’s event, a discussion was held on the topic “Collaboration between Directors and Cinematographers”. Speakers included NABA VOLCANO, President of All Manipur Music Artists Kanglup (AMMIK); ROMI MEITEI, Filmmaker; KANGLA PREM, Secretary of All Manipur Film Makers & Producer Association (AMFIMPA); BINORANJAN OINAM, Secretary of Cine Writers & Playwright Forum Manipur (CWPFM); OJITBABU NINGTHOUJAM, Secretary of Cine Directors Guild Manipur; YOIMAYAI MONGSABA, Treasurer of Editors’ Guild; and other experts.
Speaking as Chief Guest, KSHETRIMAYUM KISHOREKUMAR, Vice Chairman-2 of Film Forum Manipur, said:
“For making a good film, good collaboration between the Cinematographer and Director is very important. Because everything the Director envisions has to be captured through the camera. If there is poor communication between the Director and Cinematographer, the film will suffer. Actors, Directors, and all Crew Members must collaborate at all times.”
Delivering the keynote address, NG. GHANASHYAM (KHOIMU), Advisor, AMCA, said:
“The 12 Constituent Guilds/Associations under Film Forum Manipur have been observing Cine Off Day on the last Sunday of every month. But Film Forum Manipur decided that it would be better to observe it on a fixed date. Remembering April 9, 1972, which is observed as Mother’s Day, Cine Off Day is now observed on the 9th of every month. Today, AMCA has taken the responsibility to host the Cine Off Day under Film Forum Manipur. Cine Off Day is a day to stop film shooting, film screening, and all film-related work, and to observe it as a day dedicated to discussing and planning for the development of cinema.”
Speaking as Guest of Honour, BIRENDRA SALAM, Former Director of the Manipur State Film & Television Institute and Advisor, Film Forum Manipur, said:
“If the State Government, through the Art & Culture Department, allocates at least Rs. 50 lakh per year in the annual budget for the development of Film Forum Manipur, which is the apex body of Manipuri cinema, Film Forum Manipur will be able to do much more for the development of Manipuri films. If the government earmarks funds specifically for film, the Guilds/Associations under Film Forum Manipur will also be able to conduct timely workshops, seminars, masterclasses, and other development programmes.”
Speaking as President of the function, L. RADHAMOHON SHARMA, President of AMCA, said:
“For producing quality films in Manipur, today’s event aimed at building better relations between Cinematographers and Directors will be especially beneficial for young Cinematographers and Directors. Academic discussions like this during Cine Off Day will greatly help in our efforts for the development of cinema.”
