February 1, 2026: Ahead of Fashion Tourism Day at the LDA Complex, Sendra, social organisation For Better Kangleipak conducted a cleanliness drive at Loktak Lake, spotlighting the urgent need to safeguard Manipur’s largest freshwater lake and its fragile ecosystem.
Volunteers cleared heaps of non-biodegradable waste, including plastic bottles, liquor glass bottles, and polythene bags scattered across the lakeside. The effort aimed to promote environmental responsibility while raising public awareness on the conservation of Loktak Lake.
Co-Convenor Wangkheimayum Mangal said the initiative was part of pre-event preparations and a response to growing pollution in the lake, a key ecological and cultural asset of the state.
He warned that unchecked plastic dumping could cause irreversible ecological damage.
Appealing to shopkeepers, hoteliers, and visitors, the organisation urged responsible waste disposal and reduced use of single-use plastics, calling for collective action to preserve Loktak and promote sustainable tourism.
