CM Biren Back in Imphal Post-Meeting with Shah, All MLAs in Ruling Fold, Says Minister Govindas

Imphal, Feb 9: Manipur CM N. Biren Singh, after his quick rush to the national capital last night, returned this afternoon after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his official residence at 6A, Krishna Menon Marg. A video showing the CM’s convoy leaving the home minister’s residence also appeared in news agency feeds.

During his return this afternoon, the Manipur CM was seen accompanied by BJP’s North East Co-ordinator and MP Sambit Patra, who joined him in the national capital. Prior to his trip to Delhi, Biren Singh chaired a high-level meeting at his official residence with 21 ruling legislators to strategize for the upcoming political battle.

Meanwhile, clarifying the speculated upheaval against the Biren-headed BJP government in the state assembly session, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam said all MLAs from other parties are still intact with the ruling fold except Congress, and hardly anyone has been seen leaving. Minister Govindas also stated that it is Congress’s liberty to move a No-Confidence Motion, but they only have five MLAs.

The visit comes ahead of the state Assembly session, where the opposition Congress is set to table a No-Confidence Motion against the government. Alongside the No-Confidence Motion, the fate of 11 MLAs from JDU and NPP, who either supported or joined the BJP, remains uncertain as the Speaker’s Tribunal deliberates on their disqualification cases. Despite the growing political tensions, no ruling legislators have publicly commented on the developments.
