CM Biren Flies to Delhi Ahead of No-Confidence Showdown

Feb. 8, 2025: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh boarded a special chartered flight to New Delhi this evening, leaving Imphal’s Bir Tikendrajit International Airport at around 7:30 PM.

The Chief Minister’s sudden departure comes just two days before the crucial Assembly session, where the opposition Congress is set to table a no-confidence motion against the government.

Earlier in the day, CM Biren chaired a high-stakes meeting at his official bungalow with 21 legislators to strategize ahead of the political showdown.

However, the absence of several prominent MLAs, including Speaker Th. Satyabarta and other ministers, has fueled rumors of internal dissent within the ruling party.

As tensions escalate, the fate of 11 defected JD(U) and NPP MLAs, awaiting a ruling from the Speaker’s Tribunal on disqualification cases, adds another layer of uncertainty to Manipur’s volatile political landscape.

The Congress, led by state president K. Meghachandra, has promised a fierce battle, with Meghachandra dubbing the motion the party’s “Brahmastra” aimed at the BJP’s “double-engine” government.

With the Chief Minister now heading to Delhi and political intrigue gripping the state, all eyes are fixed on the Assembly session and the Speaker’s verdict, which could redefine Manipur’s leadership in the days ahead.
