Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today ordered a thorough investigation into alleged unlawful activities reportedly involving certain security personnel along the Moirangpurel road.
He made the statement during the flagging off of the upgradation of the Lamlai–Thoubal Dam road stretch at Napet Palli, and while inaugurating major education and connectivity infrastructure in Imphal East district, including the Itham Moirangpurel Bridge.
Upon receiving information regarding alleged unlawful activities along the road at Moirangpurel, in which certain security personnel were reportedly implicated, the matter was brought to the Chief Minister’s attention.
Taking serious cognisance of the input, he promptly directed the Superintendent of Police concerned to conduct a detailed and impartial investigation.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Itham Moirangpurel Bridge constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), a Model Residential School built under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), and the newly constructed Science and Arts Block of Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School under Samagra Shiksha, Manipur.
He also flagged off the upgradation of the 18.50 km road stretch from NH-202 at Lamlai to Thoubal Dam at Napet Palli. The project, supervised by the Public Works Department, connects NH-202 (Imphal–Ukhrul Road) and NH-102(A) (Shangshak–Tengnoupal Road) and is expected to be completed within a year.
Addressing the function held at Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School, the Chief Minister acknowledged that the school has been facing operational difficulties due to a shortage of teachers and assured that necessary steps would be taken to address the issue.
He further directed the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East to submit a report on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Laikhong Village who have not yet received Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) assistance for purchasing mattresses. The DC assured that coordinated efforts with the Home Department would be undertaken to resolve the matter.
The Science and Arts Block of Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 3,78,56,031 under Samagra Shiksha Manipur and implemented by the Education Engineering Wing, with facilities including classrooms, laboratories, a library, separate toilets for boys and girls, and rainwater harvesting.
The Model Residential School was constructed under PMJVK with funding from the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, at a cost of approximately Rs 25.62 crore.
The Itham Moirangpurel Bridge over the Thoubal River at 2.10 km under Keirao Bitra Block was sanctioned at around Rs 645.84 lakh and constructed by M/s NDS Construction under PMGSY-I.
MLAs Th. Shyamkumar (Andro AC), Khongbantabam Ibomcha (Lamlai AC), and Leishiyo Keishing (Phungyar AC) also spoke on the occasion, highlighting ongoing development initiatives and stressing the need for improved connectivity in the region.
The programme was attended by senior officials, including Commissioner to the Chief Minister N. Ashok Kumar, Chief Engineer PWD Chongtham Biswachandra Singh, Education Department officials, students, and local residents.
