Chief Minister Y. Khemchand today attended the closing ceremony of the 2nd Dr. Ksh. Chourjit Singh Inter-District Polo Tournament, 2026, held at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung, in the presence of dignitaries, players, and sports enthusiasts.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting Polo (Sagol Kangjei), the indigenous game of Manipur, stating that the sport’s origin is deeply rooted in the state’s ancient civilisational heritage.
He noted that Manipur holds the distinction of being the birthplace of modern polo and called for collective efforts to uphold and strengthen this proud legacy.
The Chief Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to building a vibrant and inclusive sports ecosystem in the state.
The event concluded with prize distribution and appreciation of the participating teams, marking a celebration of Manipur’s rich sporting tradition and cultural identity.
