CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh’s Initiative Welcomed as FOCS Hails Resumption of Peace Talks

Imphal, March 24, 2026: The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur has expressed optimism following the resumption of peace talks after a prolonged period of conflict, terming it a significant step towards restoring normalcy in the state.

In a press release issued by Tayenjam Thoiba, Assistant Secretary (Information & Public Relations), FOCS Manipur, the organisation appreciated the leadership of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh for initiating a constructive dialogue process aimed at fostering peace and reconciliation.

According to the statement, a crucial meeting was held on March 21 in Guwahati between government representatives and leaders of the Kuki Zo Council. The meeting marks the first major engagement between the concerned parties after nearly three years of conflict, raising hopes for renewed trust and mutual understanding among communities.

FOCS described the initiative as a “historic and positive development” that reflects a strong commitment to peace-building and inclusive dialogue. The organisation expressed hope that continued engagement would accelerate the return of normalcy and strengthen unity across the state.

At the same time, FOCS urged the government to prioritise the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). It called for immediate measures to ensure the safe and dignified resettlement of displaced families in their respective homes.

Emphasising the importance of preserving Manipur’s unity, FOCS highlighted the need to protect the state’s shared heritage, territorial integrity, and collective identity. It also stressed that rebuilding trust and promoting harmony among communities remains critical at this juncture.

Looking ahead, the organisation expressed hope that the next round of peace talks would be convened soon and ideally hosted in Imphal as a gesture of goodwill and commitment to lasting peace.

FOCS reaffirmed its belief that sustained dialogue and cooperation among all stakeholders will pave the way for a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous Manipur.
