COCOMI Elects New Office Bearers, Vows to Prioritise Public Interests

Imphal, January 21: The new office bearers of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) were elected on Tuesday at their office in Lamphelpat, with Khuraijam Athouba assuming the role of coordinator and Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman appointed as the assistant coordinator. They were joined by eight other newly elected executives.

Speaking on the occasion, outgoing coordinator Somorendro Thokchom reiterated that COCOMI has always prioritised the dignity and integrity of Manipur. He highlighted the organisation’s significant role in addressing key issues affecting the state and expressed concern about individuals pretending to be patriots while betraying the cause.

Somorendro also criticised the central government’s negligence, which he argued has exacerbated the ongoing crisis in Manipur, intensifying the hardships faced by its people.

In his address, newly elected coordinator Khuraijam Athouba compared the current situation in Manipur to a form of colonial rule, describing it as volatile and unpredictable. He pointed out that the people of Manipur have been enduring sleepless nights due to the prevailing uncertainty.

Athouba further criticised certain Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) for failing to address critical issues honestly. He emphasised the importance of addressing internal shortcomings before attempting to save society, warning that failure to do so could lead to greater turmoil in Manipur.

The new coordinator assured that COCOMI would actively engage with the public to determine the organisation’s course of action for the coming year. He emphasised that COCOMI is committed to working for the people and will prioritise their interests in all decisions.
