COCOMI Files Police Complaint Against KZC Ginza Vualzong

Manipur’s longing for peace now stands like a candle in the wind after a fresh firing incident, including bomb explosions, from suspected Kangvai areas at around 8.40 pm, just a day after 389 Meitei IDPs belonging to 97 families began their resettlement process at their native homes.

Following the incident, the COCOMI filed a police complaint against the KZC Secretary, Information & Publicity, Ginza Vualzong, on Wednesday at the SP, Bishnupur Police Station for justifying the firing through a press statement. The committee will later call on the Manipur DGP and the Chief Secretary, as well as seek legal action against any individual or organisation that endorses fresh violence. The COCOMI also demanded that the state administration trace and track the attackers and sanitise the area with adequate security forces.

According to reports, armed assailants fired several rounds of bullets, along with bombs, towards Meitei villages in the border areas of Torbung and Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district, bordering Churachandpur. Nearly nine bombs propelled through Pompi were fired, according to locals, and the paddy field where they fell was pierced up to two and a half metres into the ground. Security forces also recovered three Pompi from nearby areas.

Security forces rushed to the spot to contain the situation. The incident has triggered widespread panic in the affected areas and among villagers.
