COCOMI Flags Dec Deadline Anxiety as IDP Sit-in Continues, Seeks Urgent Action

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has submitted an urgent representation to the Chief Secretary of Manipur, highlighting growing deadline anxiety among Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and seeking immediate administrative intervention on security and rehabilitation issues.

Referring to the Torbung attack of 16 December 2025, COCOMI stated that indiscriminate firing and explosive attacks exposed serious security gaps, particularly as displaced families attempt to return home. The committee stressed the need for sustained area domination and proactive security measures to ensure civilian safety.

COCOMI also expressed concern over public statements by certain leaders that allegedly justify violence, warning that such rhetoric undermines peace efforts. It further sought official clarification on claims related to “buffer zones”, stating that ambiguity has fuelled fear and misinformation.

Drawing attention to the ongoing relay sit-in protest by IDPs at Lamboikhongnangkhong since 1 December, COCOMI urged the government to expedite resettlement, ensure essential services, fair compensation, and transparent, time-bound implementation before the December deadline.
