COCOMI has condemned Thongju MLA Thongam Biswajit and Nambol MLA Thounaojam Basantakumar for attending the inaugural ceremony of the Sangai Festival despite widespread public opposition. The organisation said the two legislators chose to stand against the collective sentiment of citizens, including displaced families still suffering due to the ongoing crisis.
According to COCOMI, the MLAs acted in defiance of the people’s struggle, reducing the meaning of public representation and breaking the trust between elected leaders and the public. Declaring their actions as “anti-people,” COCOMI urged residents in both constituencies to reassess their leaders, warning that representatives who ignore public pain risk becoming irrelevant in a democratic society.
