COCOMI Raises Questions on Security Measures After Kuki CSOs Undermine Peace Efforts

March 05, 2025: The COCOMI has raised serious questions about the discernible security measures taken by the concerned authority to facilitate free movement on roads and highways, which was openly undermined by Kuki groups COTU and ITLF a day after the Home Minister issued directives.

Speaking to the media, COCOMI spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba asked what security measures have been taken for the safety and security of villages after arms were surrendered to the government. The people are yet to hear of any steps being taken on the matter. He also stated that the recent remark by COTU, the frontal group of some Kuki armed outfits, undermined the Home Minister’s directives, indicating that they are ready to breach any peace efforts and remain hostile until a separate administration is granted.

The CSO also questioned whether the weapons held by cadres from SoO groups—about 25 outfits—have been deposited under strict surveillance. He pointed out instances that have come to light, suggesting that SoO cadres have recently been working hand in glove with security forces. He further questioned whether there are strategic alliances or proxy alliances with security forces perceived as less hostile. Now, the serious and crucial question arises: Is it a discreet agenda of the government to strengthen the Kuki by breaking the Meitei’s defense lines?

The overall cause of the conflict should be attributed to the Government of India, as it has failed to contain the 22-month-long issue by subduing the state forces.
