Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, AICC In-charge for Manipur and Lok Sabha MP from Koraput, Odisha, today led a vibrant state-level rally in Imphal, reaffirming the Congress Party’s commitment to protecting democratic principles and the Constitution. The event, organized by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) under the banner “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod,” was held at the City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, Imphal East.
Addressing the crowd, Ulaka highlighted the party’s ongoing campaign against alleged large-scale electoral irregularities across India. He emphasized that similar rallies had recently taken place in Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, as part of the second phase of the Congress protest movement. Citing recent developments in Karnataka and Bihar, he accused the ruling authorities of manipulating electoral processes and attempting to suppress the voices of marginalized communities.
Ulaka also announced that the Congress plans to launch a nationwide signature campaign starting September 15, targeting the collection of 10 crore signatures. The campaign aims to submit the signatures to the Election Commission of India to ensure elections genuinely reflect the people’s mandate.
The Imphal rally saw strong participation from MPCC President Keisham Meghachandra Singh, CLP leaders, party MPs, MLAs, former office-bearers, and grassroots workers. Meghachandra Singh, speaking at the event, stressed that the slogan “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” represented a broader movement for restoring democratic values and accountability. He criticized the state government for policies that, according to him, undermined public rights and promoted corruption and favoritism.
The rally combined political speeches with cultural performances, reinforcing the Congress message and urging unity among citizens to safeguard democracy. Leaders and supporters repeatedly chanted “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod,” highlighting the party’s focus on protecting electoral integrity and the democratic rights of the people of Manipur.
