March 25, 2025 : Manipur Congress President, K. Meghachandra Singh, launched the ‘Samvidhan Bachao Rastriya Padyatra, Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ campaign at Nachou, Bishnupur District, where he praised the significant contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in saving the Indian nation and framing the Constitution.
He was joined by other prominent leaders, such as MPCC Vice President Bidyapati Senjam, Ex-MP Dr. Th. Meinya, Ex-MLA P. Saratchandra, Bishnupur District Congress Committee President Md. Nur Rahaman, and Ex-Minister Samuel Jendai, who all participated in the padyatra.
The event, which was part of the ongoing nationwide campaign, also saw the honoring of 98-year-old Congress worker Laishram Satrajit Singh for his long-standing service.
In his address, K. Meghachandra Singh emphasized that the Manipur Legislative Assembly could be dissolved at any time due to the violation of Article 174(1) of the Indian Constitution.
He also criticized the imposition of President’s Rule, stating that while it may be extended, the situation was unconstitutional and left the state in suspended animation.
He further expressed his concerns about the central government’s lack of sincerity in addressing the ongoing turmoil in Manipur, asserting that the youth had no future and the people had lost hope.
He demanded that the people of Manipur be given a fresh mandate instead of the continued imposition of President’s Rule, alleging that the Constitution was being undermined and that citizens were unable to move freely within the state.
