Imphal : Jan 18 Congress legislators launched a scathing attack at Chief Minister N. Biren over the prolonged crisis and his alleged inability to curb violence, accusing him of dismissing opposition suggestions.
The verbal assault took place during Lok Sabha MP Bimol Akoijam’s felicitation program on Saturday at Mayang Imphal Bengoon in Imphal West.
Top MPCC leaders, including former CM Okram Ibobi, MLAs K. Ranjit, Th. Lokeshwar, and former minister Kh. Ratankumar from Mayang Imphal AC, participated in the event.
Addressing the gathering, MP Bimol criticised CM Biren as someone who talks in his sleep after losing consciousness, in response to Biren’s criticism of him for protesting with posters outside Parliament.
Bimol expressed disappointment that the CM mocked him for holding posters of violence victims in Manipur. He also claimed that CM Biren used to seek his advice and stated he had proof of this.
Decrying that the Meetei community cannot cross Kangpokpi District during the crisis under the BJP regime at the Centre and state, spanning Manipur’s 2000-year history, Bimol emphasised the public’s need to teach the current government and its leaders a lesson.
During the event, all Congress legislators opposed BJP’s “One Nation, One Election,” labeling it as a move towards dictatorship in India, contrasting with PM Modi’s assertion of India being the largest democracy.
