Congress MLA K. Ranjit Appeals for Peaceful Serou and Timely Financial Assistance from Govt

With the gradual return of Internally Displaced Families from Serou, who were earlier sheltering in different parts of Imphal East, to their respective native homes, Congress MLA K. Ranjit of Sugnu AC appealed to the people of Serou to maintain peace on Friday while speaking at a public gathering at Serou in Kakching district, Manipur.

The MLA informed that so far, with State and Central security forces maintaining strict vigilance, no untoward incident has been reported. He added that some residents of the area are currently living as IDPs in other places and appealed for their gradual and orderly return, emphasizing that land and property inherited from forefathers must be protected collectively.

However, he opined that the untimely release of financial assistance meant for IDPs by both the earlier popular government in the state and the present President’s Rule administration is a serious concern. He said IDPs who are looking to return face challenges due to damaged houses, lack of basic facilities, and poor road connectivity. He pointed out that although the government has announced various works in this regard, many are still pending.

Because of this, the sufferings faced by the affected people continue, and it is essential for the government to take up necessary works without delay. He also urged that funds sanctioned for the reconstruction of IDP houses and for new settlements should not be misused or diverted and must be utilized properly and on time.
