March 09, 2026 (IMP): Is Congress MLA K. Ranjit coming back to his first and former parent party, BJP? Speculation has skyrocketed in Manipur’s political circle after the long-term Congress loyalist MLA K. Ranjit dashed off his resignation letter from the post of Deputy CLP Leader of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge this afternoon.
However, it is not known what conspired him to announce this decision while the state assembly session is currently active. In the 60-seat state assembly, excluding one vacant seat, the opposition Congress has 5 MLAs.
“It has been an honour to serve the party and uphold its principles and responsibilities. I am sincerely grateful for the trust and opportunity given to me. I request you to kindly accept my resignation,” the MLA of Sugnoo AC said without specifying the reason.
Congress MLA K. Ranjit of Sugnoo AC won his first election with a BJP ticket in 2000 and served as Minister of Health and Family Welfare and GAD in 2002. He later switched to Congress and was re-elected to the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly on an INC ticket and became Deputy Speaker, and went on to win the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Assemblies on an INC ticket. He had also earlier served as Minister of Agriculture, PDA, Works, and Transport during the then-Congress government.
